REMEMBER THE BATTLESHIPS LARGE GROUP TOUR
See the Historic Arizona Memorial and Missouri Battleship
Experience a leap backward in time as you visit these historic battleships. Pearl Harbor is undoubtedly one of the main attractions on Oahu, and for a good reason. Not only is this tour a chance to examine two incredible pieces of American history in the Arizona Memorial and the Battleship Missouri, but it’s also a chance to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the Pacific theater of WWII.
The tour begins at the Arizona Memorial, a striking white structure that straddles the remains of the sunken battleship where over 1100 souls are interned. From there, it’s just a short shuttle ride over to the Battleship USS Missouri, sight of the Japanese surrender in 1945, which you are free to explore at your own pace.
After picking you up from either Waikiki or Ko Olina, we will first take you to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The visitor center is the perfect place to get the tour kicked off. It contains many exhibits that explain the significance of Pearl Harbor and the role both the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri played throughout the war.
On December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor was rocked by Japan’s surprising and devastating attack. The Arizona Memorial serves as a reminder of that first day of battle as well as a way for you to honor the lives of the over 1000 men and women who died that day. The Battleship Arizona was destroyed early in the attack, with a bomb penetrating the lower decks.
Nicknamed “Mighty Mo,” this massive battleship served the United States throughout WWII and retired shortly after the Gulf War in 1991. As part of the tour, you will be able to explore the entirety of the ship at your own pace. You can even stand on the Surrender Deck, where Japan finally surrendered to US forces at the end of the war.
Tour starts from Waikiki or the Ko Olina hotels/condo
Relaxed pace with over 4 hours to explore the Memorials, Battleship & Visitor Center at Pearl Harbor
Enjoy a movie as well as a boat ride to the Arizona Memorial
Cross the bridge onto Ford Island, which is still an active military base
See the entirety of Battleship Missouri, including the many rooms and galleys that were home to thousands of US soldiers during WWII.
See a piece of history on the Surrender Deck where the treaty to end the war was signed
After seeing Pearl Harbor, you will be driven through Punchbowl Crater, which contains the National Cemetery of the Pacific.
Visit downtown Honolulu and enjoy its historic buildings, including Iolani Palace and the King Kamehameha Statue.
This is a large group tour, meaning that the tours will be run in mini-busses that seat anywhere from 20-40 people with ample space and comfort. We also have access to an open-air trolley that we will use if the weather permits. We use six central locations to pick up guests in Waikiki that are convenient for most accommodations in the area. (Pick up from all Ko Olina hotels happens on Thursdays only)
The tour route will take you through Honolulu to Pearl Harbor, where you will be able to enjoy a relaxed pace and spend over 4 hours exploring the main attractions.
Immediately after arriving at Pearl Harbor, the first stop will be the Visitor Center, where dozens of exhibits will allow you to take a step back in time. From there, you will be directed to a theatre in which you will watch a documentary that will explain the history and significance of Pearl Harbor and the ships you will see later on in the tour. From the Visitor Center, you will be taken via short boat to the Arizona Memorial, where you will have the opportunity to see the names of some of the sailors that lost their lives that day and pay your respects.
The next stop on the tour is the Battleship Missouri, expertly preserved as a floating museum. While the ship’s decks tour is mainly self-guided, you will want to check out the Surrender Deck area. The Surrender Deck is called that because that is where the papers that formally ended our war with Japan were signed. During the height of the war, nearly 2000 sailors lived and worked aboard the ship. As you explore the decks, rooms, and galleys, try to imagine what life must have been like on the open ocean in WWII.
*Parking: Beginning April 15, 2023, Pearl Harbor National Memorial will charge a parking fee to all those arriving in personal or rented vehicles. The parking fee will be $7/day and will be paid via a virtual pay system through visitors’ mobile devices or though an onsite kiosk located within the Visitor Center complex.
Tours picking up for Ko Olina hotel/condos are only available on Thursdays. No tours will be offered on December 7th as the entire park is closed to the public in honor of Pearl Harbor Day and the men and women who lost their lives on the ‘day that will live in infamy.‘
