Kealakekua Bay is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 snorkeling locations in the world. The Bay is a state historical park and underwater marine sanctuary. The name “Kealakekua” means “Pathway to God” and the “mana” (spiritual power or energy) can be felt here by all. The large bay provides calm waters year-round and is home to thousands of Hawaiian reef fish. Kealakekua Bay is the home of the Captain Cook Monument commemorating the death of Captain Cook at this bay on February 14th, 1779. The waters here are clear, offering great visibility. This lively snorkeling spot is also sometimes home to dolphins, sleeping reef sharks and other marine life.

We begin from the beautiful Keauhou Bay. This three-hour adventure leaves the dock at 12:30 PM for a more relaxed adventure to the best snorkel spot along the coast to Kealakekua Bay and Captain Cook Monument. Our small raft is an adventurous way to explore the afternoon snorkeling opportunities at Captain Cook Monument. On the way guests will learn all about the marine life, coral reefs, watch dolphins from the comfort of the boat and even whales during the winter months. On the way to and from Kealakekua Bay, we will explore some sea caves too. Our small group tours between 6 and 14 people make for an awesome personalized snorkeling experience. We provide snorkel gear, swim instruction, floating aids, tropical fruit snacks and cold drinks on this tour. We ask that you always use reef-safe sunscreens in Hawaii!

What Should I Bring?

We suggest you wear swimsuit under a cover up, bring a towel, sunglasses, reef safe sunscreen lotion only (no aerosols please) and a camera. For the Manta trips we strongly advise you bring a towel or cover-up to use after your trip. Our boats do have a small dry box aboard for a personal bag. Please try to use a small bag so all guests have room to store their belongings.
Will There Be Shade On The Boat?

All of our boats offer shade. However we strongly suggest you bring along and apply beforehand a waterproof and reef safe sunscreen, or wearing a rash guard or paddle shirt. For some guests, a hat might be a good idea too. Just make sure it won’t blow off and end up in the ocean. If you take the proper precautions, you can easily avoid overexposure.
What If I Get Seasick?

Generally we have fewer problems with seasickness than regular boats and large catamarans because of the open air, fast-moving nature of our vessels. However, while our vessels will affect far fewer guests, there are still people who are strongly susceptible and will become seasick no matter what. If you decide to take an over-the-counter medication, we recommend taking the recommended dose the night before your trip and the morning of your trip. We do not offer refunds due to sea sickness.
What If The Weather Is Bad?

The Kona Coast is blessed with the best weather, least rain, and calmest water in the state. The occasional gloomy sky can quickly turn sunny. For this reason, our highly experienced Captains will assess ocean conditions 30 minutes prior to tour departure. No trip will be cancelled prior to 30 minutes before its scheduled time of departure. If the trip is cancelled due to unsafe ocean conditions, we will make every effort to reschedule your trip (subject to availability) for a later time during your stay on the island. If that is not possible, we will cheerfully refund your full purchase amount. We do run rain or shine.
